The VCU Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies (IDAS) seeks to explore the complex problems of drugs through multidisciplinary research and training, with a focus on the neuroscience of addictions and related neurobehavioral disorders. The institute is led by F. Gerard Moeller, M.D., a preeminent researcher with a focus on brain imaging in addiction medicine. Moeller's addiction research has been funded since 1996 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Moeller is also director of the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research and the university's associate vice president for clinical research.
The Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies invites all interested candidates to explore our Business Officer opportunity (Job Family: Financial Services, Financial Specialist 1-3 (18211-18213). This position, assigned to IDAS, provides a full range of specialized fiscal support in the areas of purchasing, invoice processing, source document preparation as well as advanced fiscal, bookkeeping and accounting related duties in reviewing, processing and reporting computerized fiscal records and reports and other supporting duties. The department has over 100 active indexes/accounts averages annual expenditures in excess of excess of $10M annually from institutional funds and grants and contracts, which vary in size and complexity.
The incumbent is responsible for reviewing, processing, and reconciling fiscal transactions and reporting in accordance with all federal, state and University guidelines, as well as carrying out responsibilities in the areas of procurement, accounts payable, travel, and petty cash.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
The ideal candidate will meet the following minimum qualifications:
● Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting principles, with demonstrated ability to perform duties related to administrative and fiscal support.
● Excellent customer service skills, organizational skills, and excellent attention to detail
● Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word
● Working knowledge of university procurement, travel, and financial reporting policies and ability to review and correctly interpret written those policies
● Ability to work collaboratively in a team unit as well as possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
● Effective communicator with the demonstrated ability to explain complicated issues clearly, succinctly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
● Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Requirements:
The ideal candidate will meet the following preferred qualifications:
● Preferred bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent plus two years' experience.
● Experience with Banner, RealSource, ImageNow, REDCap and/or other software database programs

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience $50,000 - $60,000
